A frustration that became

In 2019, our founders — a small team of privacy engineers and designers based in Stockholm — grew tired of the same trade-off: you could have convenient photo backup, but only by handing your most personal moments to advertising platforms.
They asked a different question: What if privacy wasn't a premium feature? What if it was simply the default?
Vemorya was built from that conviction. Every architectural decision — from zero-knowledge encryption to EU-only server infrastructure — stems from the belief that your memories should never be a data point in someone else's business model.

Five years of building

The idea takes root
Erik and Astrid meet at a privacy conference in Berlin. They sketch the first version of Vemorya on a napkin: a photo backup service that truly cannot see your photos.
Private beta launches
After a year of building, Vemorya opens to 500 private beta users. Zero-knowledge encryption is live from day one. The feedback is overwhelming — people have been waiting for exactly this.
Public launch & first 10,000 users
Vemorya opens to the public. Within six months, we reach 10,000 active users — entirely through word of mouth. No paid advertising, no dark patterns, no growth hacks.
ISO 27001 certified & Family plan
We achieve ISO 27001 certification and launch the Family plan — bringing private, encrypted backup to entire households. Individual vaults mean no one can see anyone else's photos, even within a family.

Your photos, metadata, and usage patterns are never sold, shared, or monetised. Our business model is simple: you pay for storage. That's it.
Your data stays in the EU
All servers are physically located in EU data centres. We don't use CDNs or subprocessors that route data outside European jurisdiction.
Annual third-party security audits
Every year, we commission independent security audits and publish the results. Not the summary — the full report, including any findings and how we fixed them.
Full data portability, always
You can export all your photos and data at any time, in standard formats. If you choose to leave, we make it easy — and we delete everything within 30 days of your request.
GDPR Compliant
Full compliance with EU General Data Protection Regulation. DPA available on request.

Zero-Knowledge Architecture
